History of Kayyur Cheemeni Grama Panchayat
Theyyam, a ritual art form that is expressed through rituals, is one that has attracted world attention. Theyyam, which is performed in connection with the Kavas from the month of Thulam to the 1st day of the month of Idava, is a prime example of the cultural heritage of this region. Art forms such as Thottampattu, Poorakalli, and Kolkalli, which are performed in the ancestral homes of various sects, are also expressed here even today.
Libraries and cultural committees that function as cultural centers of the rural areas are active here then and now. As a result of these, it has been possible to create a socio-politically aware generation.
After independence, when states were formed on the basis of language, this region was part of Kannur district, and when Kasaragod district was formed in 1984, Kayyur-Cheemeni was included in Kasaragod district.
Before independence, this area had limited transportation facilities, but today, many passable roads and walkways have been constructed, providing greater freedom of movement to the people.
